Technical arrangements for the all-day event are progressing well and include the provision of simultaneous interpretation. Gesher Galicia is continuing its close discussions on planning with colleagues at AGAD, and with our other advisers in Poland. The program and list of speakers are taking shape.
The main topics of the one-day event will include: * Opening remarks from Gesher Galicia and the Director of AGAD; * AGAD and its Jewish Galician records; * Jewish Galician records in other Polish and Ukrainian archives; * A panel discussion with archivists and local researchers from Poland and Ukraine; * Special records: Tabula books, “Evidence” books, Jewish medical students * Holocaust records from Galicia; * Maps and cadastral survey records; Contributions by Gesher Galicia members, on important things theyhave learnt from archival records. A full buffet reception in the evening will follow the main program. Transportation for the symposium will be arranged between AGAD and the main hotel staging the IAJGS conference.
KEEP THIS DATE!Pre-registration for the symposium will open on Sunday, January 28, 2018, through the Gesher Galicia website, where a special web page is being set up. People who have paid their Gesher Galicia membership dues for 2018 will receive priority booking for two weeks, before booking is opened to all. Further announcements on registration will be made nearer the time.
This promises to be an important event for Gesher Galicia members and researchers on Galicia in general. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Warsaw next August.
