Dear Irit,

Thanks for writing about your interest in the Warsaw Conference. Our mission is to make this conference as accessible as possible to the greatest number and variety of Jewish genealogists (considering that we have budget constraints).

We've talked about whether we need to have simultaneous translation, and it's still possible, but our sense is that there has not been a great cry for this. If there appears to be a need for it, we would definitely consider it, but could not provide this for 150+ lectures, so it opens up a whole bunch of questions once we say that we will have simultaneous translation... As you know the official language of the conference is English, and the vast majority of our potential attendees come from English-speaking countries, but that doesn't mean that we are inflexible. If we perceive a real need, we would do our best to adjust. We'd just have to see what we can afford.

The IAJGS always provides infrared devices that are compatible with hearing aids, and sometimes provides a signer. We have already arranged for infrared devices and asked about signers, but will not provide a signer unless a need is demonstrated.

In addition, we are aware of mobility issues, and are aware of several attendees that will require scooters which they will rent themselves.  We have a limited number of disability accessible rooms at our hotel as well.

We are also aware of dietary and religious observance needs, and may make mistakes in all these areas, but we believe strongly that not only is it kind, but it is good genealogy practice to make our conference as welcoming and comfortable as we can to the broadest range of attendees as possible.

Judy Baston is our "Accessibility Chair" and you may write her directly at: accessibility [at] iajgs2018.org to discuss these and other similar topics further.

Hope to meet you in Warsaw!

Subject: [Warsaw-Discuss] Simultaneous translation & FM amplifying

Hello all,

I have 2 questions that their answers are very important for me:
1.      Will there be simultaneous translation in the conference?
If yes, from which to which languages?
2.      Will there be FM amplifying system that hard hearing people with suitable hearing aid will be able to connect to?

Thanks,
