Dear Friends,

We cannot afford to have shuttles at the conference though it's a very nice idea.

Subject: Re: [Warsaw-Discuss] Panel at POLIN Museum prior to the Conference

For a variety of reasons, a "thirty minute walk" at the end of the day does not appeal to me, and perhaps others.

My guess is that there will be numbers of people at the Hilton already who would be interested in attending the special program at the POLIN. Is there any possibility of a (specific sign-up and then a) shuttle from the hotel to the program and back?

And as long as I am writing, I agree with some suggestions that there be a  listing of attendees trips before and after Warsaw. I will be in Krakow for three or four days immediately afterwards, going by train, and then taking a train to L'viv to visit Rohatyn, Strzeliska Nowe, Stratyn, Stryj, and some other towns, before attending a fair the last couple of days in Ivano-Frankivsk. The dates are 19 - 26 August.  Anyone interested please contact me at captallen1 [at] gmail.com.

Incidentally, I will be in Warsaw from the 1st. No  reservations at the Hilton were available at the time, nor did were the additional hotels yet announced. I got a terrific deal at the Novotel Warsaw Centrum, until I transfer to the Hilton. I have stayed there before, and as a single traveler, recommend it most highly.  Its a centrally located fabulous four star experience within walking of old town, if they cannot get into the Hilton or other conference hotels.

Dan, Robinn and committee, thank you for all your efforts to make the IAJGS in Warsaw a memorable and most worthwhile event. Ii can't wait.

Please note that this POLIN-sponsored panel is not an official part of the IAJGS conference, but IAJGS Conference attendees are invited to attend.
We are trying to obtain confirmation that there is no charge for admission to attend the panel.

6 pm, Saturday Night, August 4, 2018, just prior to the Conference, come
visit the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews (a 30 minute walk from
the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center).

Why?

Panel: What Do We Really Think?: Stereotypes in the Polish-Jewish
Landscape.

This panel addresses the challenges and opportunities experienced by those
active in preserving Jewish memory in Poland. As recent developments
demonstrate, long-held stereotypes and historical animosities, compounded
by profound national and personal trauma and loss, make the effort to
create dialogue and mutual understanding between Jews and non-Jewish Poles
both essential and potentially explosive. For contemporary Poles; for the
descendants of Polish Jews; and for those from other communities who
contribute from a variety of motives and backgrounds, the long, tragic
history of the Jewish community in Poland shapes perceptions and attitudes.

This panel brings together different voices and viewpoints in an effort to
share insights and provoke dialogue as a necessary precondition to building
bridges and changing stereotypes.

Panelists include:
Moderator Glenn Kurtz, author of "Three Minutes in Poland"
Witek Dabrowski, Deputy Director, Brama Grodzka-Teatr NN
Zuzanna Radzik, Executive Board Member, The Forum for Dialogue Among
Nations
Leora Tec, Founder & Director, Bridge To Poland
